Student Mini-Grant Application Process

Thank you for your interest in a Westlake Education Foundation Student Mini-Grant. Please choose the method by which you would like to submit your application. You need only to use one method to apply.

Student Mini-Grants for Grades K – 8!

The Westlake Education Foundation (WEF) was founded in 1987 as a community trust to meet the needs of education beyond the scope of traditionally funded programs. In support of its mission, the WEF is offering Student Mini-Grants for Westlake City School District students, grades Kindergarten through 8th.

General Information and Criteria

  • Student Mini-Grants will be offered to students in the Westlake City School District, grades kindergarten through 8th.
  • For the 2010-2011 school year, the WEF has allocated $2,500 for the purpose of funding student mini-grants; however, no one individual grant shall be greater than $250 per applicant.
  • Student mini-grants are offered to defray the costs of participating in extracurricular programs that will enhance the academic experience. “Enhancing the academic experience” shall mean a program that will develop a student’s knowledge in an area of his/her interest that could not otherwise be enhanced in the traditional school setting.
  • Examples of acceptable programs include summer camps offered by museums, science centers, libraries, schools and universities such as art camps, science camps, leadership conferences and the like. Programming must be academically based. The program provider shall be an accredited organization.
  • Examples of programs and expenses that will not be funded include sports camps, music camps, foreign travel, private lessons, college tuition and travel expenses such as mileage, hotel accommodations and food expenses.
  • Student mini-grants are available to students of any academic ability provided the program of choice will enhance the recipient’s academic performance in school; however, remedial programs will be excluded.
  • The WEF may elect to fund all or part of the student mini-grant requested.
  • Checks will be made payable to the organization or school offering the program. In no event shall grant payment be dispersed to the recipient, their parents or guardians.
  • Student mini-grant requests must be submitted on the WEF application attached and shall be completed in full with all requested and applicable attachments.
  • Applications are to be returned to the Westlake Education Foundation, Attention: Student Mini- Grants, 27200 Hilliard Boulevard, Westlake, OH 44145 by March 25, 2011.
